Default view in dialog boxes

Does anybody know how to change the default view in dialog
boxes (Save As, Open, etc.)? I want to change it from
"thumbnails" to "list".
 
This works in most situations, but I'm trying to change the
view in the Save As box when saving images from web pages.
I can change the view when the dialog box is displayed, but
next time I bring up the dialog box, it will be on
thumbnail view again. I want it to come up in list view all
the time.
