Default Template

I have successfully downloaded a template from Microsoft and I'm using it as
my default template ( when I choose File - New - Blank or click the New
button it opens to this new template) However, occationally, I still need to
have a blank PowerPoint file to work with. is there a way to open a new
clean presentation and still maintain a default template?

Thanks for the help...have a great day...

Which version of PPT?

Assuming 2007, the Office Theme is the one that PPT 2007 uses by default.
You can just apply it to your presentation after choosing File | New by
choosing Office Theme from the "built-in" section of the Design tab | Themes
gallery. (I think it's the first one in the "built-in" section, actually.)

Make sure you have saved your template file somplace.

Close PPT.

Look for

default design.pot or blank.pot or blank presentation.pot and delete it.

When you open it the next time, it should be the old default template. The
blank one.

Save that template someplace. Call it Original.POT or some such. Don't call
it blank.pot.

Then open your other template and save it as blank.pot or right-click it in
the Slide Design pane and choose "use for all new presentations."
