Default tab settings

I am using Office 2000. How can I change the default tab settings in Word? I
have done this many times but the settings always return to 1.27 cm. Many

If you are changing the default tab stop interval in Format | Tabs, I
believe that setting is only for the current document. In order to make the
change for all new documents, you will probably need to do this in
Normal.dot see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm).
