Default placement for drive windows (at top of screen?!!)

Couldn't find any help on this anywhere else, as most searches for
"explorer window" turn up information on Internet Explorer. I have
several shortcuts to drives and folders on my desktop. MOST open up
in the location where they were last closed. But occasionally, they
default to opening at the very top of the screen, which is quite
annoying. Anyone know of a way to change that "top default" location?
I get really tired of having to drag them back down all the time!!

Steve,

This means that you must have one set on your desktop to open that way.
When this happens resize/move the window to where wanted using the double
arrows, then use File/Close or Exit.

Actually, that's not the issue, but thanks anyway. I don't have any
other folders set to open in that way. I know other people must
experience this-- like WinXP just forgets where the folder is supposed
to be and defaults to putting it at the top of the screen. I fear this
my have something to do with the number of "folder customizations"
(which you can set if you download TweakUI). And I think the default
is 400... Anyone think that could be the issue?

Hi Steve,

What I meant was, if you have opened a folder and perhaps placed it higher
to do something else, it may have remained in that position and needs to be
closed properly where you want it for the next time.

As per your TweakUI question, the edit doesn't work properly in Tweak. Use
this one:

Windows remembers 400 folder settings. When that number is reached some
settings aren't retained any longer. You can change this to 8000 by adding
this edit to the registry.

Run this edit, then reset your preferred folder options:

Increase Folder View Options Limit: (Line 2)

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Kelly:

Thanks so much for your help. I can see, however, from your last
response that you might not have experienced what is happening to me.
When I say that the windows are appearing at the "top of the screen",
I mean that they appear with the top of the drive window EXACTLY flush
with the top of the display. (kind of like the docking behavior you
see with apps like Winamp, for instance). So, I basically have a drive
window that used to appear in the middle of the screen upon opening,
but now suddenly appears flush with the top of the display. And when
it happens, it's always the same way-- it goes to the top of the
screen.

btw, nice site you have...
