Default "Path" at boot

Where's the path set for Windows XP Home?
My Autoexec.bat file is empty. The one place
I found in the Windows Directory doesn't seem
to affect the path when I subsequently view the
path at the DOS prompt after modifying and
re-booting.

Right click on My Computer and select Properties, or open System in the
Control Panel. Go to the Advanced tab and click the Environment Variables
button. Scroll down in the list of system variables and you will see your
path variable there. The actual value is stored in the registry.
