Default Mail Client Message

Since installing the Windows XP SP2 Upgrade I have been experiencing a
problem with Outlook 2003. I continue to experience a pop up message that
reads "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client
cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run MS Outlook and set it as the
default mail client." Outlook is set as the default mail client. There is no
problem with receiving or sending email, only the annoyance of having these
messages pop up every few minutes. By shutting down my machine and rebooting,
it eliminates receiving this message for about 2-3 days only to have this
message again reappear. I have been using Outlook 2003 for quite a while and
never experienced this problem until the XP SP2 update was installed.
Uninstalling the SP2 update elimnates the problem. As soon as it is again
reinstalled via the Windows Update program, the problem resurfaces. I have
several other computers with the exact same software applications installed
without the problem. It is an IBM ThinkPad R50 that I am experiencing this
problem with. Any suggestions as to what is causing this and how to eliminate
the problem without sacrificing the Windows SP2 Upgrade?
