default language setting always returns to US

I try and change my default language setting from English US to English
Australia in normal.dot (and other templates and documents) and it always
returns to US next time I use the document/template or grammer check etc. How
do I make change "stick". I have tried doing this through Grammer, Languages,
Settings etc

Yes I have Acrobat 7 installed

Check the Adobe website for how to deal with this problem.

Well I've done everything suggested on this site, as well as uninstalling
Acrobat / Adobe reader as mentioned above, and *still* every time I open MS
Word the default language is US. This is honestly driving me mad!!!

Did you also read the section on existing documents? It might be
necessary to recreate them in order to fix the language formatting.
