Default Fonts

Under Tools, Options on the Datasheet tab the list of fonts are missing. I
still can see the list on my Formatting (Forms/Reports) Toolbar and fix the
problems I am having but it's inconvenient to have to reset this all the time.

I did find and try the fixes about deleting some of the fonts and adding a
new printer but they did not resolve my problem.

The original font used was MS Sans Serif which is in the font folder
although the properties had been set to "hidden". I changed this. I also
read that MS changes this font. if it's used, to Tahoma.

I didn't have this problem a few weeks ago which was prior to an equipment
upgrade, so this is a new install of MS Professional. I would really
appreciate any help that can be offered and thank you in advance.

I found those fixes about the number of fonts and also adding a printer. I
tried both but neither of them worked.

I have no more fonts now then I did prior to the equipment upgrade when the
default fonts wehre there. However, when I tried that fix I deleted about 30
fonts.

I have 1.87 GB of RAM and about 500 fonts. We have 15 PCs in the dept all of
them have the same amount of memory but some have over 900 fonts and they are
not having a problem.

Hi Ann,

How often do you run utilities such as Ad-Aware, Spybot, and a Registry
Cleaner? Just as a car needs to have it oil changed and tires rotated,
PCs need maintenance so they can continue to perform well -- especially
since you connect to the Internet.

I run utilities about once a week.

here are some links for you:

Ad-Aware -- malware detection and removal
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

SpyBot -- malware detection and removal (make sure to install TeaTimer,
which monitors attempted changes to the registry)
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

RegCleaner -- registry cleaner
http://www.worldstart.com/weekly-download/archives/reg-cleaner4.3.htm
(from the menu, choose --> Tools, Registry Cleanup, Do Them All -->
then, when done, CTRL-A to select all, then press Del to get rid of them)
(there are lots of other things to do, but this is the most basic)

these are all free downloads

We are a large company and I don't have rights to download or run any of the
programs. As for how often the department responsible runs them I couldn't
say. Thanks anyway I appreciate the help.

you're welcome, Ann

Perhaps you should talk to the folks that support your PCs ... and
request that they run utilities and do a cleanup on your system -- you
will be amazed at how much better performance you get!

If that fails, then uninstall Office and then do an install ...
reinstall does not usually fix these kinds of issues... you said you had
a "new install of MS Professional" ... but if Office was not first
removed, then it was not a NEW install...

I would also remove more fonts -- there are probably several that you do
not use or need ...

good luck!

Thanks, I submitted a service call to them about a month ago. I was hoping
to find something on my own while I waited.

It is a new install of Office because it's a new PC built from the O/S up
and is only about a month old. They also have to do the removal and new
install so I'm kind of stuck at this point.

Thanks for the help.

Hi Ann,

watch the guys when they install -- are they mirroring directories or
doing a real install? On a new PC, I'll bet they mirrored directories.
The problem with this is that it does not detect your equipment, it is
just whatever the configuration was on the system that did get the real
install.

"don't have rights to download or run any of the programs"

wow, that is too bad ... I think I'd go hang out with them and offer to
buy someone a beer!

here are a couple on-line scanners:

House Call (Trend Micro) -- online virus scanner
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

One Care Safety Scanner -- online PC safety scan
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm

this isn't as much as you need ... but maybe something can be detected
and get you attention sooner ;)

sorry I can't give you any better news -- seems your hands are tied ...
if it is any consolation, there are a lot of folks in shoes like yours...

best of luck to you, Ann
