That was happening to me too. I fixed it in the registry.

1. Click Start -> Run
2. type REGEDIT and click OK
3. Navigate to this key (the version number depends on what version you have
Access 2000 is version 9.0):

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Access\Settings

4. In the list of Values, there is one called "Default Font Name" Double
click it and type the name of a font that you have, such as Tahoma.

5. Close Regedit.

Cause may be too many fonts loaded into your Fonts folder. When you exceed
the "size" limitation for ACCES, the fonts disappear from the dropdown list.Try deleting one font at a time and check the dropdown list. When you've
deleted the "magic" last one, the list will suddenly reappear!

Mike, did as you said and changed the default font value to Arial, but I
couldn't save it. There is no save function in the registry????

Be sure that all applications are shut down when you try this. No Word,
Excel, nothing open -- just windows. And don't try to delete the ones that
Windows uses (Tahoma, etc.).

Go for the ones that are "outliers" for ones you typically use. 1299 is a
lot of fonts.
