This problem occurs if there are too many fonts on the computer.

First thing is to check that you have the service packs for Office XP. On
the Help menu, choose About this program. You should see at least SP2,
preferably SP3. If not download the update.

Your next choice is to delete some fonts from your system.

If you don't want to delete fonts and you are comfortable with editing the
registry directly:
1. Exit all Access sessions.

2. Click Start -> Run.

3. Type REGEDIT and click Ok.

4. Navigate to this location:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\[your version
number]\Access\Settings

5. Set these two values:
REG_SZ: Default Font Name = the name of the font (e.g. Arial)
REG_DWORD: Default Font Size = the point size you want (e.g. 10)

Hi Allen,

I have tried your solution and doesn't work. I am having Access 2002 SP3
running.
We have tried to repair the installation with no luck. We have unistalled
the Office applications and reinstall them and then applied SP3 and again
with no results.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

PS Until last week everything was running fine. The problem occured on
Monday when i opened a database and run a query. In the results the fonts had
changed. Also when you open the formatting toolbar, there is no font
selected, eventhough from here you can choose the one you want.
The problem lies with the default settings.

Thanks

How many font files are on the computer?
Open a command prompt, and go to the fonts folder under Windows, e.g.:
cd \windows\fonts
Then enter:
dir /a
How many files?
If there are many hundreds, you can probably solve the problem by reducing
them, and rebooting.

It is also possible that the font Access is trying to use is no longer
registered properly, though I have not personally experienced that as the
cause.

Hi Allen,

Thanks very much for the advice. The problem was the fonts. Last week there
was some upgrading in my machine and the it person who did it, didn't realise
that he install extra support for all lunguages (ie chinese, japanese, etc).
As a result i had about 100 extra fonts but with a total size of about 450MB.
By deleting all the unnecessary fonts, the problem was solved.

Thanks again.
