Default file extensions

I am running parallel installs of Office 2003 and 2007. I have managed to
suppress the windows installer message for word 2003 and 2007. I have also
managed to revert all 2003 file associations back to default with <path to
11.0> app.exe /regserver. This gets all the 'old' file formats back to
auto-opening with 11.0 versions.

Unfortunately, Access 2007 will not accept the same registry hack to
suppress the windows installer message and wipes out all the 2003 defaults.

I really need the file formats to open in their own version. Any help with
the Access 2007 message would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Hi,

I am changing file association using Total Commander (free to use
first 30 days). Mark any .MDB, click File and then Associate With...
Change association of .MDB to Access 2003. This should work. Basically
you can do the same using Windows Explorer (menu Tools\Folder Options
\File Types) but, for some reason, I've found it does not work the
same way.

Howdy, Branislav!

I can explain the issue with Folder Options. You actually are changing the
association when you do this. However, the APP GUID in the registry has been
changed to the 2007 version. Reregistering Access 2003 with the '/regserver'
will change the APP GUID back...but only until you launch Access 2007 again
which spawns the Windows Installer to put all the office settings back to
2007.

After changing the extension associations with the Total Commander, are you
able to launch both versions of Access (2003 & 2007) without the Windows
Installer message reconfiguring for the latest version?

Thanks for the response!

Hi,

Shortly: No. Sorry if I didn't understood - I though you could not run
Access 2003 for .MDB extension.

Hi,
I can run access 2003 and access 2007.
The problem is, if I open access 2007 and after I open Word 2003 or access
2003 (any application of office 2003) or any aplication created in access
2003, the install configuration for office 2003 appear (windows installer
message). After the configuration finish and if I open second time, the
windows installer doesn't show.

Happens the same problem for access 2007, I mean, if I open access 2003 and
then I open access 2007, the windows installer start.

Somebody else have any ideia to fix this issue?
Thanks
JCP
