Default Email Client Not Outlook Conflict

I am having problems with telling my system that Outlook is not the
default email client.

I have Forte Agent set as the default browser for news and email in IE
6.1. I have Agent as the web browser in Agent Tools/Options/URL (all
options enabled).

Most of the time mailto: in IE and FireFox will bring up Agent.
However, windows programs such as Word or Excel always try to bring up
Outlook whenever I do a File/Send To/Mail Recipient. I get the
following error message, "Either there is no default email client or
the current email client cannot fulfill the request. Please run
Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default email client."

Has anyone else run into this attempt to force one to use Microsoft
Outlook as an email client and found a way to force it to use
something else? I have another application that follows behind that
setting and actually brings up an Outlook compose screen.

Thanks.

What do you have set in Control Panel | Internet Options | Programs for the
default mail client?

Thanks for the reply. Finally figured out that it was a MAPI issue and
that Agent is not MAPI intelligent. It can call one, but not be used.
Hence, I will use Agent as my news reader and Outlook as my email
client. Solves a bunch of connectivity issues, but was a pain to get
it all resolved.
