Default Dialog Box Display Option

Jim Reed

Hello Group!

When I want to open a file using most Windows applications, there is an "Open" dialog box that appears. There is a choice of views that includes Thumbnail, List and Details.

Is there a way to have this dialog box always default to show the files in the "Details" view, when I open any application?

Thanks in advance for any assistance!

What's the problem with HTML format for messages? You appear not to like
it. :)
Why is plain text better?

Thanks for making me smarter.

I'm not Wes, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway.

1. HTML messages are substantially bigger than plain text messages. That's
wasteful of bandwidth.

2. Downloading a bigger message isn't necessarily a big issue to me in the
USA, but many people in other parts of the world pay for downlaods by the
byte. So HTML costs them money.

3. HTML is just window dressing. It adds nothing to the content, but only
purports to make meesages *look* better.

4. In many cases, regardless of what it purports to do, it actually makes
messages look worse and be harder to read. I had a friend that used to send
me messages that were red text on a black bcakground. They were *very* hard
to read. I had to threaten to killfile him before I could get him to stop.

5. Many of us (me included) read all messages in plain text, no matter how
you send them, so the HTML accomplishes nothing.

6. Most important, HTML messages can carry malware, and that's why I read
all messages (E-mail as well as news) in plain text, regardless of how they
are sent.

I read all messages in plain text, newsgroups or mail, however...

http://www.bootdisk.com/html.htm

The thing that I hate the most is that I get an attachment for every HTML
message. That's how I know when text is HTML. I.e. ATT00155.htm
