Default(?) changing for downloaded photos from jpg to bmp

I have been having a problem lately with saving photos found on the web to floppies. I'll be saving them and they'll go on the floppies as jpg's. Later on, the only format it will save photos as is bmp...it's almost like a default is changing itself or something, and refuses to go back

It's not a case where the type of photo is different, i.e., it is a bmp file, because pictures that were previously saved as jpg's I've tried to save over again to see what they would come up as, and they came up as bmp's

Is there something I can adjust on this

Clear the temporary internet files. Start - Control Panel - Internet Options - General tab - Delete Files button - tick the checkbox then ok.
