Default Browser Selection (account specific)?

I have two accounts on my dad's computer, 'ub' and 'rc'.

When I change the default browswer for 'rc', the choice seems to
affect 'ub', meaning when I make Firefox my default browswer on the
'rc' account, logout, and login to the 'ub' account, the default
browswer for 'ub' is no longer Internet Explorer.

Is there are workaround for this? I have a hard time believing that a
multi-user OS like win2k wouldn't be able to support independent
browswer choices between accounts.

How are you doing this, with the Internet Properties tool (e.g. from
Control Panel) or with the Internet Options dialog from IE Tools menu?)

I haven't checked but it may be that the former affects all users while
the latter only affects the current user.

It would be easy enough to check using RegMon (freeware from
SysInternals). Just establish a filter for iexplore*SetValue
and see which values are changed. In case neither procedure changes
just a value in HKCU you could further use it (with a less constraining
filter) to find out if any queries were done for non-existent values
in HKCU. Depending on how brave you are <g> that would then
give you either something to experiment with or research further.

Good luck

I've tried it both ways and my settings for one account seem to affect
the other; this doesn't seem right to me.

Can someone tell me how I can have independent default browser/mail
choices in Win2k?

Still interested in the answer to this question. I'd like to have
Outlook and IE ask me upon startup whether they should be the default
handlers for their extensions. This still is not happening on my
Win2k machine.

Still haven't received an answer...

I'm able to get both browsers to prompt on startup, but my settings
for one administrator account ('rc') affect the settings for the other
administrator account ('ub').

Seeing as Win2k is a multi-user OS, this seems a bit ridiculous to me.
Can anyone provide some insight as to how to get independent browser
settings for different accounts under Win2k?

Hello? Whoever's got the light, please, speak up! I'm getting lost in the dark.
