Default Alt key function

I am running Win XP with WP 11. It appears the Alt key is defaulted to work
with the menu bar (Alt+F, Alt+E, Alt+V, etc.) I use Alt key for many macros
and continually get disturbed by the menu windows dropping down. I was
wondering if there is any way to disable the Alt function with the menu bar?
I just use my mouse when selecting the menu functions. Thanks!

Let me see, the alt key was chosen by IBM for menu access in the 80s. So why have you been writing macros with it for 20 years.

I may have worded it wrong. I assign my macros to the "Alt + _ " keys.
Also the software I use with WP (for typing depositions) has key assignments
(Alt T, S, etc.). It did not affect my speed in Win ME and WP 8, but has
greatly affected it in XP with WP 11. I guess what you are telling me is
that there is just no way to disable the alt key function with the menu bar.
Thanks,
Joanne
