Dedicating RAM for video card?

I just got more RAM for my computer and want to dedicate some of it to the
graphics card. Currently I have a 64MB video card (Geforce 5700). I got 2Gb
of RAM and want to dedicate 256Mb of it to the graphics card. Is there any
way I can do this?

why not just get a graphics card with 256MB?

Justin,

If it's an onboard Video Card then yes you can if your BIOS supports it. It
has to be set in the BIOS so read your manual how to do it.

All the best,

No, if yours is a separate graphics card, there's no way to do
this. The only way to do something like this is if you have
onboard graphics on the motherboard instead of a separate
graphics card (and even then, how much you can dedicate to
graphics depends on what motherboard it is).

Sort of,you can disable PagingExecutive in regedit to increase paging
to ram instead of the paging file.

Well my comp is a laptop. The cost of getting the 256mb video card was way
to high. My BIOS doesn't seem to have a spot that allows me to change the
amount of RAM for the video card. It just says video memory 64Mb and it wont
select. Is there anything else I can do?

buy a new laptop with replaceable graphic cards, there are
one or two such on the market. try Alienware

Nothing. You're stuck with the 64mb. Unless the BIOS allows for RAM
sharing with system memory and is adjustable, what you see is what you
got.

Only if your video card is onboard and the bios has the option to
allowcate more ram to it.

Why not just get a 256 MB card? $80 to $90 for some and they aren't bad A 64
MB card will never come close in the performance even if you are able to do
what you are attempting.
