AAARGH!!!
Have just spent half an hour trying to get 800x600 down to 640x480 on a
monitor that can't handle more than 640x480, and so is showing multiple
strobing bars that I can barely make out. I know it's possible because
my brother did it a week ago, but it resets to default 800x600 every
time you restart, and I can't get hold of him right now. Tried
right-clicking, Properties, press Tab 4 times, Right arrow 4 times, Tab
once, Left arrow once; because this worked on another WinXp machine.
But nothing happens & the colour display thing is superimposed 5 times
over each of the 5 resolution/area bars spread all over the screen, &
nowhere I click seems to cause any response.
Can you swear in this forum???
Goddammit!!

after left arrow once, Tab 7 more times & hit enter to APPLY the changes :)

Extract the EXE inside and copy the file to the hard disk. Create a shortcut and place it in the All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder.

This small EXE will automatically set the resolution to 640x480 at user logon. It would probably help if you had autologon enabled, as well.
