Have you installed the right decoder?
If the problem persists you may try MCEdiagnostic tool to submit the bug.

I haven't tried installing any decoders vista has it's own decoders somehow
they've become corrupted and no longer work
And I can't seem to find any vista decoders on the microsoft website, So
that I can download them and reinstall them.
I don't think this is a bug decoders can get messed up from time to time
even in the most stable software envirnoments.
I think it's a serious short comming that a decoder package isn't available
to download or accessable from the vista DVD. Then a situation like this
would merely be a inconvience not a major problem.

Hopefully Microsoft is working on this problem. Mine stopped working on Aug
29 th after an update. Tried using the restore point back on Aug 20th which
did not work. I have an HP m1070n.

Sounds like that update could be the cause it might have made irreversable
changes to some of the code
the easiest solution would be for microsoft to add a media center repair
tool to vista that way the user could reset the decoder at the click of a
mouse
I can see this becomming a major issue otherwise. It sounds very good in
priciple to have a media center with everything built in and preset but it
also limits repair options when components become corrupted

I think that all the Microsoft people are on Vacation this week. I guess
this will be fixed in service pack 1 to be released in March of 2007. Back
to Media Center 2005.

My vista started failing the other day too. It had been working fine.
Actually had been using it like a DVR to record some shows and view them
later. The other day I booted up and DECODER ERROR too. I am running the
same beta 5384. My thoughts are besides frustration, that could the TV guide
cause a problem? That is the only thing that was updated on mine(that I know
of ). But, ironically my Vista was in a pull out drawer last week. I was
using XP, so nothing was added to a HD that was on the shelf. lol Any ideas,
guys. Where are the MS folks Jason HELP!

That could be a thing worth looking at
I've tried a lot of things none have worked so far
my guide subscription ran out a few days ago it might be the cause of the
problem seeing it can't download updates anyone because it's expired not
sure if that would be the cause of decoder errors though
I was looking in the daignostics console for any errors that may be related
to it
and found quite a few errors with ehrecvr.exe that file is a part of media
center
I'll look into the tv guide issue and let you know how I went
I going to keep working on this but I don't think I'll go as far as
reinstalling vista seeing RC! will be out very soon

We have two treads going on the same problem. But, I downloaded the NVIDIA
Purevideo decoder Platinum 30 day trial. It installed clean. I started
Vista Media Center and BAM! I was back watching Live TV and able to watch
recorded TV. Spent way too much time on this problem. It was definately a
download "fix" in the middle of the night that broke my Vista. Who? I don't
care anymore. Thanks to all you guys for the suggestions.
