I have 3 computers in my home network. One seems to be protected from view
no matter what I do. None if its shared directories is named with a $name.
If I want to copy from it to another, I have to do so from the unshared
computer.

Where can I look to solve this problem?

How do verify that my shared method is valid for only my home LAN?

This is not enough information to diagnose your problem over Usenet. You
don't tell us how your network is set up or the operating systems
involved. Here are three links to excellent networking sites:

http://www.wown.info/
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/
http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/

Basically, for such a small network it is easiest to use a router with
dhcp enabled. This will create a LAN using private IP addresses. Be
sure all computers are in the same workgroup, have unique names that do
not duplicate user names, that accounts for each user with associated
password are made on each NT-based machine and proper privileges
assigned. Be sure that accounts are actually logging in on Win9x & ME
machines. Be sure shares are created - you will not be able to share
items that are reserved for administrative shares on NT-based machines
but will need to Create New Share - for instance if you want to share
the C drive on a WinXP box.
