debugger

I'm having trouble loading EA Sports NHL 2003 onto Windows
2000. It tells me that I need to disable my debugger.
Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

One thing to first check is in the "run" box, type msconfig. then go to the
boot tab and click the advanced tab then you can now untick the debug box

Then if it is already unchecked another things to try that I have heard
works is:
search for and rename a file called amdfix.sys- found in the
winnt/system32/drivers directory.

Another solutions if you have an Audigy 2 Card:
If you installed the driver/application software from Creative Labs Audigy 2
Platinum, you simply need to "uncheck" the box that lets that annoying
Creative Introduction/Getting Started/Demo screen launch on startup, then
reboot your system to see if A-the annoying startup graphic stops launching
at startup and B-your game stops prompting you to "unload the debugger" when
you try to run it.

Windows 2000 does come with msconfig.exe. It is not contained within
any of the subequent patches to Windows 2000. If you attempt to install
the Windows XP version of msconfig.exe you receive a message stating the
Windows version is incorrect. Where do you suggest 'frustrated', and I,
get a version of msconfig.exe that works in Windows 2000?

Here's one possibility:
http://www.3feetunder.com/files/win2K_msconfig_setup.exe
Reported to be the Windows XP version of MSCONFIG (5.1.2600.0); includes
help file. Install file format.

Also available from the following (notes may not be current):
http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm (program & help, zipped)
http://www2.whidbey.com/djdenham/Msconfig.htm (program only, exe; help
file available separately)

5.1.2481.0, zipped)

My friend is having the exact same problem - something
seems to have triggered debugging but we cant work out how
to turn it off - could a bad driver or somesuch be
starting the debugger?

Rab,

This can occur if you have the /DEBUG switch in your boot.ini file. Follow
these steps to remove the /DEBUG switch:

1) Make sure Windows is set to Show All Files. To view protected operating
system files:
Double-click My Computer.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Click the "Show hidden files and folders" circle under "Hidden files and
folders".
Click to clear the "Hide extensions for known file types" check box.
Click to clear the "Hide protected operating system files" check box.
Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm your choice.
Click OK.

2) Find boot.ini on C:\
3) Right-click on the file-icon and choose Properties - uncheck the
Read-Only check box if it is checked, then click OK.
4) Double-click the boot.ini file, you should see text that looks like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect /DEBUG

5) Remove the "/DEBUG" listing and any other "/" listings after ""Microsoft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect" *** WARNING - If you have a multi-boot
option, you may show more than one line under "[Operating systems]". Only
remove text on the line pertaining to the operating system you are booting
to. ***
6) Save the boot.ini file and close all Windows to desktop.
7) Reboot system.

Hope this helps.
