new to this and still learning. i have xp home running on an asus motherboard
with 4 usb ports in the back and 2 in the front. my mouse was connected in
the back of the computer and when i tried to connect a digital camera to a
usb port i lost all functions on the rear 4 usb ports. i plugged my mouse
into the front 2 usb and it works there. windows says usb device not
recognized and has malfunctioned when i plug in the mouse to the old slot.
device manager says no drivers installed and everything is working fine.
going nuts, please help, tia

validate bios settings, and inspect cable connections inside (tho rear
usb's typically have no cable, they're soldered to motherboard; fronts are
always a cable].

try deleting and redetecting those usb ports in Device Manager: open DM,
expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" branch in right pane, highlight
each and press delete - repeat for all. Then do Action menu | scan for
hardware changes. it should redetect and reinstall the drivers for the
usb ports.

Hate to say it, but sounds like the camera fried your rear ports.
