On my desktop machine, XP Home, when I try to listen to .ra or .ram
files I get a waning that ddraw.dll is either missing or corrupt. I've
gone looking for a place to download this file but have only found
commercial sites that want money for what would seem to be a MS file.
I/ve searched the MS site, and only got a load of information about
playing games. I do have 4 copies of this file on a laptop, also XP
Home, can I copy them from one to the other if I put them in the same
place? And why 4 copies? I know about bloat, but this is about as
bloated as most American waistlines!

The file "ddraw.dll" is a Direct Draw library file. An updated copy
should have been installed by SP-1. This particular file should be
preserved and replaced by Windows File Protection..

If you installed SP-1 to your machine, there should be a copy in the
c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 and of course one in
c:\windows\system32.

Don't know what's going on with your desktop but you can copy this
file from your laptop to the desktop and place it in
c:\windows\system32. Also do a virus scan on your system.
