I am learning all kinds of things today about finding the hidden problems
with wonder Windows XP.

I seem to be having a number of these errors:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10005
Date: 11/6/2005
Time: 3:31:50 PM
User: INGO\Frederick Ingoldsby
Computer: INGO
Description:
DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled
or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to
start the service StiSvc with arguments "" in order to run the server:

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

And this other one with the same "ID number" that is at the end of the one
above:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10010
Date: 11/6/2005
Time: 12:49:55 PM
User: INGO\Frederick Ingoldsby
Computer: INGO
Description:
The server {A1F4E726-8CF1-11D1-BF92-0060081ED811} did not register with DCOM
within the required timeout.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Note - This last one has only appeared once a few days ago, while the first
error has appeared multiple times today and previously.

Thanks for your help.

The answer is here:

Read and digest. Dcom is not needed. To get rid of it on your PC, download
from the website Decombobulator, decombobulate yourself, then having done
that, disable Dcom in Decombobulator, then exit. It all sounds improbable,
but believe me, it is your answer.
