day names in calendar view?

Any idea how I can get the names of the days to appear in calendar view
using the 'day/week/month view with auto preview' option. I usually display
5 days or less in this window (so I get a column view rather than a grid)
and it doesn't show day names in this mode.

win 98se doesn't seem to give me the option to add day names to the date.
