"Date" program ?

J

John Fitzsimons

Hi,

When I am using a particular computer that isn't mine (XP) I often
want to know the date. As I may be using a USB drive I was wondering
whether there was a small program that would run off such a drive to
give me that info ? An "always on top" option would be handy too. I
don't particularly want to have to go into the system settings for
that info, or change their system. Anyone ?

Regards, John.

I would just look at the, whatchamacallit, taskbar. But this .cmd file
will put the date in a window:

start date /T

Here are a couple of possibilities - AFAIK neither one has an always on
top setting.

Program: Calendar
Author: Horst Schaeffer
Install: (n.i.) (n.r.)
Ware: (Freeware)

Calendar 1.61

Program: Past, Present & Future (v 1.1)
Author: Overware Systems (Bob Dolan)
Install: n.i.
W: LFW
Ware: (Freeware) v 1.1

You sure know that you get the date if you hover the mouse above the
tray clock?! A tool you may think interesting is T.W.U.S.:

www.twus.de/twus_en.htm

which provides a broad variety of clock displays (also with date if
needed). The special feature of this program is the "display inside
the titlebar" option. The current version is German, only. But you
may find your way through the settings with help of a dictionary a
bit trial and error. The next version shall be English, too. Be
carefully to use the "Remove registry entries" menu options whenever
you leave the computer which "isn't yours". ;-)

I know. I use it. But does it run from a USB drive ? My Tclockex
folder doesn't have an ini file so I am thinking it needs to write to
the registry. Which I of course don't want.

Thanks. I might wait for the English version. :)

Thanks for the registry info. I would prefer however NOT to write
to the registry.

Or you use command line, which spares you the German interface:

twus.exe -U -24 -D -E -M

-U: clock modus
-24: 24-hour display (use -12 if you better like the am/pm mode)
-D: show date, too
-E: print date/time to titlebar
-M: start minimized

Please note: Most commands are case sensitive!

Maybe you should write Mike Demuth about that wish. At the moment
the program writes to the Registry even when it doesn't store its
settings. (When called with command line parameters as noted above.)
You also can delete Registry entries using command line:

twus.exe -qx

But be sure to close the running instance of T.W.U.S. *beforehand*!
Else you'll get the registry settings back when you close the program.

Just another thought: As the program hasn't been updated since 2003,
the new (English) version might *never* appear. :-( Again, some
lines to the author may help to encourage him. As may do some exotic
crown caps (he collects them):

www.twus.de/korken.htm

Just drag your mouse over the time. The day and date display in a
popup. No click necessary.
