Date format when exporting data from Sage Line 50 into Excel

I've exported loads of bank transactions from Sage Line 50 V11 into Excel,
and want to sort by transaction date. I dimly remember that I need to
transform the Sage dates from text by the use of DATEVALEU, but cant seem to
get the syntax. Any suggestions, please?
