Every time I open a document, the date is automatically updated. How do I
delete this feature? I want the original date that I prepared the document.

Press Alt+F9 to display the DATE field and change DATE to CREATEDATE. Alt+F9
to toggle back, and F9 to update. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/DateFields.htm for more information on
the types of date fields.
