Date and Time Properties

Guest

I have detected an error in the "Date and Time Properties" > "Internet Time"
Tab.
When I click the update button I'm alwase getting an error:
"An error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com."

I have this servers in my list:
"time.windows.com"
"time.nist.gov"

And both returning the same error.

Does this option suppouse to work or it's an old option that has been
forgotten from earier windows versions?
Or does new server (that works) is available?

Alex, the same thing happened to me recently. I added others to my list that
work. I'm not at that machine now and don't remember what I added, but you
can find other sites by searching for time servers.

Open Services to see if the Windows Time service is running.
Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to Windows Time
Is the Windows Time service running?
It will say: Started
If not started...
Double click: Windows Time
Is it set to: Disabled or Manual?
Change to Automatic
Click the Apply button
Is the Start button grayed out?
If not grayed out, click the Start button.
If it starts, double click your clock.
Internet Time tab.
Update Now button.
Does it still show the error?

[[Displays a message if clock synchronization fails when you click the
Update Now button. If the network is busy or not available for some reason,
try again later, or set your clock manually on the Date & Time tab.

If synchronization was blocked by a firewall, you might not be able to use
Internet time synchronization. If you are using a personal firewall, see
your firewall documentation for information about unblocking network time
protocol (NTP). Also, ensure that your date is set correctly. Clock
synchronization can fail if your computer date is incorrect.]]

The Windows Time service is set to Automatic and Started.
I tried restarting the service but the error is still displayed.

I fixed my similar problem by turning off auto update in date & time
properties/internet time, rebooting, rechecking the box, and rebooting. Now
all five servers that gave me the error that you get work fine. Hope this
helps.

Try unregistering and reregistering the service:

1. Start->Run cmd.exe
2. net stop w32time
3. w32tm.exe /unregister
4. w32tm.exe /register
5. net start w32time

(note spellings w32tm and w32time in different commands)

Thanks! This worked for me.

There are other very similar suggestions in other threads that look ALMOST
like the script you suggested that don't work. You're the hero!
