datarecovery help needed

after uninstalling a reborn pci card all data on the hd is scrambled
and unreadable ....
it needs to be recovered, it's my nieces schoolwork and she didn't have
a backup <sigh>

what is the best thing to do? what program does *really* work to get
her stuff back?

What *exactly* was this pci card and its purpose?
Uninstalling a card should not impact on any data.
In what format was the data? or with what App was the data created?
