datafile problem

I recently installed Outlook 2007 on a new computer (running Vista) as part
of one of the suites. I migrated 2 pst files from my old computer (XP) and
previous version of Outlook. Everything seems to be working except that I
keep getting a message when I initially open the program that " a datafile
did not close properly the last time it was used and it is being checked for
problems." This occurs almost every time I open Outlook. Any ideas? Thanks.

How did you "migrate" the data, and have you let the file check run it's
course?

I exported the file from the original XP based computer, then dragged it to
the new desktop via the home network, then imported it into the new program.
I did as you suggested and left the program open for awhile to complete the
file check - that didn't seem to solve the problem. However, while trying to
problem solve myself this am I deleted the RSS feeds I "accidentally" signed
up for and so far that has seemed to resolve the original issue. Incidently,
if someone else is reading this and having the same problem search the
newsgroup with "data file" rather than "datafile" as I did originally. You
will get more hits as others have had this issue before and there were
several redirects to the following site:

And thereby created all your problems. It is almost certain that you have
possibly a corrupted pst file and mail profile as well.
All received wisdom on all the Outlook groups says that you do not use the
import/export function to transfer data between different instances of
Outlook.
Do you have access to the XP machine? If so, make a COPY of the pst file
(with Outlook closed) and copy that to the new machine. Do not overwrite any
existing file, and ensure that the read-only attribute is off.
Then on the new machine, create a new mail profile. (Control Panel-Mail-Show
Profiles-Add). Connect the copied pst file to that profile.
That should cure all the problems.
If you do NOT have access to the XP machine, then just try creating a new
mail profile and add the existing pst file to it.
