data recover HELP!!

I was wondering if you can provide me with some tips on
how to recover data from my hard drive.

I was planning to rebuild my laptop computer and deleted
the system files partition (31Mb) and then realized I had
forgotten to back up one very important file. This was
the Microsoft Outlook .pst email file. Now when I try and
reboot the computer it gives me a hardware disk
configuration error and I cannot boot the machine. I have
tried chkdsk and it said repaired the bad sectors.

The partition that contains my file is intact and was not
deleted. Is there a way for me to recover this file? The
file system is a FAT system and now has only 1 partition
C: which stores all the data. I can boot from WEIndows
200 CD and go to the Recovery Console. Is there a way to
backup this one file from recovery console without having
to use a software programm. I cannot get into the OS and
install anythin gor even look at the files. it stops at
reboot and gives me the above error!!

Please HELP!!

If the C: partion, with your important data is really FAT: use a
DOS boot floppy to boot the PC and save the file.
I assume though you want to reinstall some Operating System on
that PC again, so why not install your target Windows version on
any partion exept C: ?
Once Windows is installed again (e.g. on the D: partition) you
can read and backup the contents of C:

If you deleted the partition that contains your important file
then you must use third-party software in your attempt to
retrieve that file. The rule of the game in such cases is:
Do not install anything on the DUT (Device Under Test),
in order to avoid overwriting anything. In your case this
means buying a $10.00 adapter so that you can run
your laptop disk in a desktop PC, then install some
partition/file recovery software on that PC but not on
the DUT. Here are some tools that could help:

http://www.restorer2000.com/r2k.htm (to restore NTFS partitions)
http://www.hddrecovery.com.au
http://bootmaster.filerecovery.biz (has NTFS undelete tools too)
http://www.runtime.org/ (GetDataBack)
www.acronis.com (RecoveryExpert)

I suppose you realise that your real mistake happend
a long time ago. Every important file must be backed
up to an independent medium every week. Failure to
do so makes you extremely vulnerable: One little glitch
and your important file is history. This could be user
error, file corruption, disk damage, theft, fire etc.etc.

Hello,

In this case I recommend Active@ Undelete software. It has some great
recover methods and advanced functions. This utility supports DOS and
Windows family OS types, many file systems and HDD configs. You can
download it now and find more information at
