Data read error

C

Cooler Dude

XP Home SP2 NTFS

Acronis True Image Home v.10 has just started reporting a data
read error from drive C: and when told to "Ignore", it takes AGES
before moving on and completing the backup image.

CHKDSK /F (or /R) finds nothing wrong.

IF there is nothing too bad and it is just a slight hiccup
affecting only Acronis TI, is there a method by which I can
ascertain which file is occupying sector 1,911,761, so that I can
delete it/move it or exclude it from the backup?

TIA

The first thing to do would be to run the hard drive mfg's diagnostic
utility (this can be downloaded from their website for free) on the drive to
find out if there is in fact a problem with it. It makes no sense to waste
time trying software solutions if the drive is going bad. chkdsk will not
tell you if the drive is physically failing.
