How do you close a Outlook data file?

Right mouse click on the folder which denotes the "file", and pick
"close". This disconnects this PST file from Outlook. Menu: File/Open
to re-open it.

Note: not normal to close these file unless you have aparticular reason
or are simply completely done with ever using it.

Many Thanks Rob for replying

I have tried to do this but unfortunatly, this option is disabled on the RHM Menu.

I think the problem is related to the data file in question being the main mailbox file, which i opened a second time in error.

However, I have just fixed the problem:
1) Open Tools >Email Accounts
2) Select View / change existing email a/c
3) Click on New Outlook Data File
4) Create new file with different name
5) Close / Re-open then RHM menu close data file!

had to repeat to then remove the new data file and now all is well!

Again, Many Thanks

Speaking of data files.... Just a few questions

I have been trying to keep all my outlook data files on a network share for backup purposes. I was out for a few months, and when I came back my whole profile in windows went *poof*. But the files were still there. So I created a new outlook data file.

I REALLY am computer literate. I'm a software engineer. I'm great at breaking stuff. But usually I am able to put them back together by research and patience. Outlook is somewhere between Mt. Everest and an albatross, "becase it is there" and "now look what I've done...

Many weeks and keystrokes later... I now have TWO folders called "Mailbox" -- and they look identical!! I have data files littered here and there

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I installed the pst backup, and SOMETIMES it prompts me to backup things, and other times it prompts me with just the "cancel" button click-able (others are inactive)

Also, not to be picky, but I am not the typical office (not as in Microsoft Office) person. I understand the technical aspects of stuff (not everything!), so it is VERY difficult for me to understand the doc's that are "typical-user" oriented

Thanks!!!

Use Google to search this newsgroup for "ghost folders" to locate a mesage
that will tell you how to fix this problem.
