Data Files Not Accessible By Some Users

I have two hard drives on my Windows XP Pro box. All Applications and
programs are on the C: drive; all data files are on the D: drive. This is a
home computer, not connected to any networks, and all users should have (and
previously did have) permission to all data files.

I recently had a crash on the C: drive. It was replaced by a new hard drive
and I had to re-install Windows XP Pro and all my other programs. Initially,
I had the 'Simple File Sharing' disabled and was logging on using an
administrator account. A few days later I enabled 'Simple File Sharing' and
created another non-adminstrator user account for daily tasks and for
internet access. I have forgotten which I did first.

Now I have a problem. The new user account does not have access to most of
the data files. What is the best way to get my system back to all users
having access to all files?

Thanks very much.

not too sure where youre coming from but here are two suggestions...

1.\To gain access to hidden/system folders. logon to user account, open
folder options >view[tab] > allow for ; show system files, show hidden files,
uncheck 'hide protected OS folders

2.\using an account with administrative rights; in the 'user accounts'
through control panel, click the user you want to give administrative rights
to and 'change my account type" to administrative.

unless you need administrative rights its reccommended that you don't do
this, you are more likely to become infected by hackware and more susceptible
to OS corruption.

You can sometimes change the files 'security' rights to relax or restrict
usage control amongst users. Choose what is best for you.

If you want to reset the security, you will need to disable Simple File
Sharing. It doesn't really matter if you've got it on or off if you don't
have a network - but you can't get at the security tab if you have SFS
enabled.

If need be, you can then change the NTFS permissions on the folder(s) or
take ownership of them and then reset the NTFS permissions. You will need
admin rights to do this, so you probably want to log in as the built-in
administrator account (or another admin-equivalent account - I recommend you
set one up).
