Data Execution Prevention - win32 error

G

Guest

I keep getting and error message that says:

Datat Execution Prevention, to help protect your computer, Windows has
closed this program. name: Generic host process for win32 services.
Publisher: microsoft
Then send or don't send error report.
OVER AND OVER AND OVER - CAN'T GET RID OF IT.

So I

I downloaded and ran MS Defender and it said my computer was running
normally.
No adware, malware or any other kind of ware was detected.
The error message comes up every time the computer starts up and at random
times during the day. Not every day but enough. The computer also shuts down
and this message window appears each time I restart the system.
Thoughts?

This is a program trying to use memory in a way it's not supposed to -
you should have the option of disabling the DEP when it fails.

If you trust the program Right click "My Computer", properties,
advanced, Performance - tab to DEP and do what you need to do.

|>What's the downside to excluding win32 services from DEP

download and run Process Explorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Double click on the process(s), reading it's image and command line
will tell you where to find them. stop the process and delete the
file/directory.

Right clicking on the Process and selecting Google will describe the
process.

Find out how important it is.

Also Start | Run <type in> services.msc <enter> see what it's for

That wasn't ment, it was a macro that I didn't edit before sending -
only delete it if it's not a good thing.

Hi steve , I am experiencing same problem on a notebook (ACER 5633-WLMI , 1
GO RAM) with Windows Media Center XP SP2 (bought it on October 16th 2006) .
How did you solve your problem ?
Which parameter at system level in BOOT.INI file did you specified ?
Can you give me details if there are about things to be done at Windows
level ?
Best Regards ...

I red in the documentation
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms791539(d=printer).aspx

The /noexecute parameter is effective only on 32-bit-processes.It enables
software enforced DEP and,if the processor supports DEP,it also enables
hardware-enforced DEP.
On 64-bit processes,DEP is enabled by default and cannot be disabled
(equivalent to /noexecute=AlwaysOn).For these processes, the /noexecute
parameter is ignored.On a 64-bit operating system,the /noexecute parameter
affects only 32-bit processes running on the system .

So If you have (in my case !) a 64-bit Support ,
you have NO CHANCE AT ALL to DISABLE DEP !!!!!!

Well done Windows XP SP2 !!!!!!

Boy -- Doesn't Microsoft Windows SUCK???? I have the exact same problem.
Downloaded the fix that was supposed to correct it - didn't work. I even
unistalled the upgrade that was supposed to have created the problem - no
luck. I'm going to continue to read down some other messages about this,
but if you have an answer, I'd appreciate it. Too bad my PC is only a
year old. Elsewise I would buy a MAC.

Hang in there!
