while traveling I had an Internet cafe burn my digital photos to a CDR. when
attempting to copy the images to my HD I get a "Data Error: Cyclical
Redundancy Check" on the vast majority of images.

however, I can see at least 90% of the images as thumbnails from explorer,
so surely XP is at least recognizing the files.

I have attempted to copy the CDR but after waiting hours and receiving
numerous error messages re: bad sectors I gave up.

any insight on how I can recover these?? I'm DESPERATE.

thanks in advance

Yes, 95% of the time when you see a cyclic redundancy error its the CD
either being dirty or scratched.
(the CD ROM Drive cannot read the info on the media)

What you want to do is check the CD for some scratches, if it does, you
might want to get one of those tools that fixes/recovers scratched CDs.
On the other hand, it you see no scratches then a simple cleanup with
Isophrophyl alcohol with a cloth should suffice.

See if isobuster can read the data: http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster

ah...thanks for the suggestion. I should have checked the CDR first (wouldn't
have been smart?).

turns out there is a large gouge on the surface (UGH!). per "rock's"
suggestion I am attempting to recover files with the help of
http://www.smart-projects.net/isobuster/ but it looks pretty grim.

thanks for your prompt response
