cyclic redundancy check ????

A

Andy

I am trying to copy a VCD onto my PC to view it from there (as the VCD won't
work in my DVD player, or my PC from the CDR). So i thought i'd try to copy
it to my hard drive and watch it from there.

However, whilst copying the files over, i get a 'cyclic redundancy check'
error.

a) What is this ?

b) What can i do to correct it and copy the CDR to my Hard drive ?

Cheers
Andy

This is a check that your system does to see that the file
copied is the same as the original. Unless you can get a
hex editor and know exactly which code line is incorrect
and then change it to read exactly the same as the
original you are out of luck.

You can go here and do some more reading. Good luck

It means the file in question failed the 'sanity tests', and is corrupt
(although occasionally such files are on CDs deliberately as copy
protection measures).

Nothing, unless the file is worth multiple k$ and you can to invest
time/money in data recovery. If you bought it, take it back. If you
copied it, try again.
