Ivan

Hi, ive been just trying to install xp on my newish Harddrive
Once all the files copy from cd and computer starts up and around 36min left
of installation i get this error
An error has been encounered that prevents setup from continuing.

One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be
installed
** Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)

Can you please help me out what to do with this problem as i have never came
across it yet.

Your hard disk is probably kaput. Buy a new one.

If you want to use the disk you have now, go the the drive
manufacturer's web site and get their zero write utility. The zero wipe
utility is usually part of the diagnostic utilities. Zero write your
drive and try to install Windows again. DO NOT EVER rely on the drive
for your personal data storage, the drive may fail without additional
warning at any given time.

You have two threads on broadly the same subject.
1) Because the hd is new doesnt mean its not bad
2) Your version of winxp doesnt have big lba enabled
3) cyclic redundency err means data is corrupt

A CRC (Cyclic Reduancy Check) error does not
mean that the data is corrupt. It means that the data
can no longer be read off the hardware medium,
even though the file system may be perfectly OK. Corrupt
data could be replaced by good data but a CRC
error requires replacement of the storage medium.
