Will other computers read the cds?

Yes, the two older computers with ME. Which I no longer have.

New XP computer will burn cds, read store bought audio cds. Just won't have
anything to do with the data cds burned on previous systems utilizing ME.
And I need to get some things off of a couple.

I haven't tried on any other xp system. There is only the one computer in
the house.

What did you use to create them? If they are packet-written and
weren't closed, then XP won't be able to read them since it has no
inbuilt UDF capability.

What software did you use on the ME to burn with? If something like
Direct CD/InCD/DLA you will need to get a XP compatible version of the
same product - or at least a free 'udfreader' program you ca find in the
downloads at www.nero.com
