.DAT Files - URGENTS PLEASE HELP

Guest

I have 500 .DAT files i need to upload into Access. Being they are so large,
it takes forever to move into Excel, and then import.

How can we import directly into Access. Not sure how to change the file type
from .DAT to .txt to allow it to be imported.

Any suggestions? Opening in notepad, and saving as .txt would be my last
option, but a direct import would be ideal.

Thank you in advance.

Nikhil,

If each field in the data file is delimited by a comma, tab, or something
else that Access will recognise, you can probably just rename the file as
*.txt. After that, use Get External Data from the Access File menu.

you can also try to implement some macro that will import your files.
(transfertext command). if they are similiar files you should also set up a
specification name. this will help you in keeping the same titles and
datatypes for each field that you import.
