Danger! Unable to Update

Lately, I get this message when I perform Windows Update from IE or even
from Help and Support menu.

I did a search at www.microsoft.com but to no assistance. Can anyone please
help?!

Narrowed it down to this:

When I used the link from IE, under TOOL, WINDOWS UPDATE, it auto sends me
to this url
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5Consumer/thanks.aspx?ln=en

However, when I copy and paste under Open as
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com , it worked.

What could be the reason?
