Damages file, can not run chkdsk/f

C

Chris

hi, anybody can help me out.....
I have two hard drive, the first with win98se ahd the
second one with XP Pro. I have been trying to solve my
problem but...
Here it goes.
Everytime I boot, my XP, start's a CHKDSK, that ok, but it
stops becaure there was an error.
I tried starting in DOS to run CHKDSK/f, but I can not see
my hard drive in any letters possible, yes my hard drive
is in NTSF. I tried installing Norton Works System, but
Norton keeps saying that my hard drive is protected in
writting.
When I open Windows Explorer, to view my Hard drive, I
only see one icon acpEGath.xml. My drive still has all the
data, because if acces directly as example:
C:\programfiles, then I see all files.
Any solutions anybody.
I could reformat, but I will lose all data.
Thanks in advance.

You won't dos in XP,when you go to comand prompt, do you
type chkdsk c: /f with c as the hard drive?
Go to top of microsofts product support page and click on
search then enter 160963 in the search box. There is a
article there that gives you some more prompt commands to
try...Good luck
