Damaged XP boot disk?

I'm having trouble installing XP onto a clean hard drive. While the windows
executive loads before installation begins, I get several errors: pci.sys is
corrupted, pciide.sys is corrupted. Sometimes these errors do not come up and
I get as far as 90% through the pre-installer, but an error will inevitably
come up and force me to re-start and try again. I would like to believe
there's a problem with the XP disk I'm using, but I cannot see any scratches
on it's surface. What do you think the problem is?

Have you tried cleaning the CD?

This can usually be caused by an unreadable CD, a bad CD drive, a bad hard
drive, or bad system RAM.

because it can help to install the system without the problems you are
getting

But it's not ME that's got the problem! Reply to the original poster.......

No he's not - he's replied to ME. How else has he quoted MY reply? He should
have replied to the OP not to me.
