Trying to fix XP on Asus netbook

Hello,

I have an Asus 1000H netbook with Xp SP3. Windows boots ok and
everything
works except the following problems.

1. The favorites on IE do not work anymore. I can't save any
new ones, and it cannot find the file to retrieve any of the
previously saved ones, even though the favorite
folder is present.

2. Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel yields the error
"Dll as App error". I cannot open Add/Remove programs.
I tried running the program from the run menu and that did
not work.

I was going to run XP SETUP Repair from an XP disk by changing boot to
CD, but when I did, it gave me a PCI.SYS error.

I have run Chkdsk from Windows and it says everything is ok.
I have also defragged.

Anyone have a suggestion about this? Everything works except
the Add/Remove Programs and the Favorites in IE.

I have done a 'restore point' and also a 'Last good' boot, but this
did not fix the problem. I would like to fix the PCI.SYS error and try
Repair from the XP CD before I nuke it and do a complete install. Is
there a way to fix the PCI.SYS error before booting to USB?

My XP CD is the basic one, and does not have the SP2 on it.
Asus did not come with an XP CD, just a CD that has a 'restore'
function that erases everything.

thanks,

Mark

You could try a repair install, but read the article carefully before you
