Damaged Windows Installer

Is there a fix for a damaged Windows Installer? I believe
my installer files on W2K pro were damaged during a crash
in the middle of a load. I get a variety of errors for
multiple packages from multiple vendors, but all indicate
a failure of the installer. The service appears to be
normal and an attempt to load a new one failed because it
reported the service currently available. I have been
unsuccessful in finding a list of installer files on the
knowledge base to attempt a 1-for-1 replacement, besides,
the problem could be in the registry. This is a stand-
alone system, SP4 is already installed as are all current
critical updates. I already tried a reinstall of SP4.
Thanks.

Hi

Try the methods one by one outlined here to fix Windows Installer problems in
Win2k and NT4:

PRB: Incorrect Default DCOM Settings Cause Windows Installer to Stop Responding

After running through the four points above, also try this from Start/Run:

msiexec /regserver

If that doesn't solve your problem, and you have MSI 2.0 installed, downgrade
to version 1.1 (somewhat messy), and then install MSI 2.0 again:
