My system froze while installing a program, after
rebooting the dvd-rw, and dvd drives were not recognized
by windows. Checking Device Manager the properties tab
tells me the driver could not be loaded and to uninstall
the hardware and then reinstall, but to no avail.
Checking with microsoft, they tell me to use my boot-up
disc in the a drive to set-up and reinstall the drivers.
Is there a safer way, so i will not lose any information.

Try using System Restore to take you back to a time prior to when this
began. Start\All Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

If that fails to resolve it, you most likely have an application through
which your burn DVDs, remove that application and reinstall it and see if
that resolves the issue.
