Please provide a better description of your computer, the encryption used,
and the problem. Are you referring to XP Pro's EFS? Did you back up your
encryption key?

Here is a link that will show you what details you need to include in your
next post in order to get focused troubleshooting:

Verify that you have NTFS permissions to the folder/files. You need at least
read/list/execute/write permissions to encrypt and decrypt files and if you
are a member of any group that has deny permissions to the folder that could
explain the problem. Beyond that if the problem is with not being able to
decrypt the files a common problem is due to reinstalling the operating
system, exporting and deleting your EFS private key, other problems with
your EFS private key, or having your user password "reset" by an
administrator rather than changed where you first need to enter the old
password. --- Steve

Please find below restatement of my problem:
I am running WinXP with SP2 and I had setup encryption on one of my folders
Unfortunately something must have gotten corrupted as I can no longer access
the folder. When I attempt to access the folder I get “access denied†error
I have old copies of the registry but they are under the encrypted folder
and so I can not access them either.

I have trying booting in Safe mode but that did not help. I have also run a
checkdisk but that did not solve my problem either

Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?

If there are no readily available tools is anyone aware of a reputable
company I may turn to for assistance?
