Damaged DNS

When I try to open my DNS manager I get the following
error:
Snap-in failed to initialize
name:-not availible-
CLSID:{2FAEBFA2-3F1A-11D0-8C65-00C04FD8FECB}
does this mean i've got to remove, reinstall/rebuild my
dns?
could this be a virus problem?

Try running: regsvr32 %windir%\system32\dnsmgr.dll

It is possible that the DLL for the management tool was not properly
registered, or somehow un-registered.

Can you copy that DLL from another machine?

If this is a pro machine, you could try uninstalling / reinstalling
adminpak.msi (from your server CD).

Do other MMC snapins work?

Is this W2k, W2k3, or XP?

Can you launch MMC.exe, then add the DNS snapin manually?

If nothing else, you might try re-extracting the dll from the install cd:
find dnsmgr.dl_ and then run:
expand dnsmgr.dl_ %windir%\system32\dnsmgr.dll
then regsvr32 %windir%\system32\dnsmgr.dll
