d:\setup.exe is not a valid win32 application

Hello,

I'm trying to find some answers here. I just bought two different games, and
have had the same result in trying to install them. When I drop in the disc
into my DVDrom, I get this message when I click on any kind of executable
file: d:\setup.exe is not a valid win32 application. I have run all the
virus software, adware and spybot and removed any malicious software, and
have changed my display settings (for whatever reason) and still have had no
luck.

The drive can still read other game discs and music discs, but I'm just not
having luck with these two new games. I even exchanged one of them for a
duplicate copy and had the same problem.

What exactly is a win32 application and why am I getting this message?

Thanks
FW

I tried all these before I posted.

Didn't solve the problem. The only thing I can think of that I haven't done
is updated the driver for my DVD-Rom.

I did get the game to install, but had to drag the contents of the disk to
my hard drive, which created a grahpics error... but that's another post.

Any other suggestions?

Create another account with Administrative privileges and attempt to
install the game from that account. If it works, then you've got a profile
specific issue.

Hello,

Some odd possibilities
- are you using windows xp?
- have you tried the game in a different computer?

Did you really perform all the steps? For instance:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321641/en-us (excerpt)

| Test the Disc in a Different Drive
| ...
| If the disc works in another drive, the original drive may not be
| properly reading the disc.

What driver. Basically, the DVD-ROM uses the same built-in drivers as
any CD-ROM device.

See above. If the disk/s work/s in another drive, your DVD-ROM drive is
simply going south.

Defective software. Return for refund.
